Shady Day Chapter 1Chapter one
“Wow, this place is really nice!!” I said to myself looking around my new Minnie house. I was proud of myself because I have earned this place. All these years of chores, good grades, babysitting, it has all paid off!!! Finally!!! I do not hate working but I’m just so happy! Anyway, Hi!! My name is Chi Riluss. I’m sixteen years old and I love to read, write, and draw. I am very shy and reserved and I’ve always been kind of a nerd. That’s right, no friends… I have long black hair and black eyes. I’m not too tall or short, just average, I guess. I was born in Houston, Texas; even know you would think I’m Japanese. I wanted to be independent so that is why I got my own place. When I was looking online, a lot of places interested me but there was always something wrong with them. After I was about to just give up, I saw an article on Shady Day, and I read it. It was PERFECT. Everything I wanted. It had a great location, awesome budget, and from what the article said, great people. Well, my furniture isn’t going to be here until tomorrow so I decided I should unload my bags of carry along from my Ford pick-up truck than maybe go on a walk to get to know Shady Day a little better. Turning around and opening the front door, I walked outside and leaned over the rusty red trunk. I only had three bags so I picked them all up and went back in to set them in my room. Soon enough I was back outside walking down the well-swept side walk. Shady Day was indeed a beautiful town. It was quiet and peaceful and surrounded by forest. I looked at the forest. It seemed so peaceful and gorgeous but … well … it like it was hiding something. Oh Well. It was gorgeous. There wasn’t a piece of litter or loud music anywhere. The birds sang beautiful melodies and the sun shined throughout the baby blue sky. I passed a few houses and saw a boy up ahead. He had blond hair and looked to be in his teens. He was laying in his front yard. I could see that he was sleeping. He had black shorts and a baggy green t-shirt, plus skate shoes; he was most likely a skater. “Um… hi” I said shyly. The boy opened his eyes and sat up. “Sup” he said in a trying to be enthusiastic voice. I could tell he was tired. “Um … I’m new here… I was just taking a walk and touring, sorry for bothering you” I said starting to walk. “Wait, you’re not bothering me” he said getting up. “Sorry for being rude, I just haven’t got much sleep the past few days” he said rubbing his eyes. “Oh it’s fine” I said starting to laugh a little. He smiled sticking his hands in his pockets and rocking on his feet a little bit. “Um… since you’re new and all you want to see Shady Day’s main attraction to teens?” He asked. I could tell he was trying to be polite. “Uh, sure!” I said pretty happy someone was offering some help with getting used to things. We started walking down the sidewalk. “So, what’s you’re name?” he asked looking down at me. I noticed he was very tall and also that his eyes were a deep brown, (He was actually really cute). “My name’s Chi Riluss” I said. “That’s a nice name, well, a pretty name… I’m Hank Night” Said Hank looking at me. I was kind of shy so I just smiled at him. Soon we were at the skate park so we entered. “Welcome to Deepcutt Skate Park!!! The home of my crew and many injuries!!” yelled Hank loudly. The crew waved and yelled ‘WAZZUP’ and ‘WELCOME’ all at once. There were dozens of skaters everywhere. I shyly waved back than went beside Hank because he was the only one I knew. “So you’re the leader of this crew?” I asked Hank. “Yup” he said proudly smiling at me. “Cool!” I said. “Um… you can take a seat if you’d like” said Hank. “Ok” I said as I went and sat on a little cylinder. “Oh, I’ll be right back” he said running over to the mob. Shortly after, he disappeared. I sat there kicking a small pebble around with the tip of my feet. I looked up and saw a boy walking towards me. “Hi” I said straightening my slump up. “Hi” he said back to me with a small smile. Like Hank, he had shoulder length hair (It was black) and he was wearing jeans and a small black T-shirt with skate shoes also. He was holding his scratched up, warn out looking skateboard to his side. “Um… I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out or go get some pizza or something sometime” he said. “I’m Slade Night, Hank’s little bro” he said. “Sure, I’d love to” I answered back. “Cool, see ya around?” He asked. “Sure” I said back. He started walking away. “Wait, um, Slade” I said calling his name and getting up. He turned around. “Yah?” he asked. “Well, I’m not busy… now, are you?” “Uh…nope, not today” he said. “Well than, uh, want to hang out today?” I asked. “Sure, is now good?” Slade ask. “Sure” I answered back. “Oh, wait…what about Hank, he said he’d be right back and I don’t want him to think that I just left him” I said. “YO HANK!!!!!!!” yelled Slade. Hank popped his head up from the mob. “WHAT DO YA WANT, BRAT??!” “CHI AND I ARE GOING SOMEWHERE, IF YOU WANT US COME GET US!!!!” screamed back Slade. Slade and I left the skate park. “So um… where do you want to go?” Slade asked. “Um… the pizza idea sounded nice” I said back. “Ok” he said. After a while I broke the silence. “If you don’t mind me asking, what’s the deal with you and Hank?” I asked. “Oh, um, well you know were brothers…and …well, we just don’t get along, were totally different and … well, actually we just plain out hate each other” said Slade looking straight ahead. “That’s sad” I said looking at my toes as we walked. “Yah well, the way it is I guess… can’t change it” said Slade. “Why do you guys hate each other?” I asked. “I don’t know” said Slade kicking a rock. “I’m so sorry, I, I, didn’t mean to get into you’re business” I stumbled. “Chill, its fine!” Slade said laughing. “You’re so serious!” I giggled a little bit. We were there soon and we entered and went up to the ordering counter. “What do you like?” asked Slade. “Um…” I looked up at the menu. “… a slice of pepperoni pizza, please” I said. “Ok, do you want a coke or something?” asked Slade. “No but thank you Slade” I said. He was smiling a little bit looking up at the menu. “You’re welcome” He said quietly. A boy in uniform walked up to the other side of the counter. “What’s up Slade, what can I get you today” He asked. “Hey Max, um… a slice of pepperoni and a slice of cheese” said Slade digging in his wallet. “That will be…” he typed a few keys in the cash register. “Uh, that’ll be two-fifty” he said. Slade pulled some money out of his pocket and gave it to Max. Max stuck the money in the cash register. “It’ll be done in like, two minutes” he said. “So, who’s you’re friend, dude?” asked Max. “This is Chi, she just got here today” said Slade putting his hand on my shoulder. “Cool, so, uh, welcome here Chi!” said Max. I smiled. “Thanks” “This is Max, A seventeen year old retard” said Slade laughing. Max reached across the counter and slapped Slade across the neck. They started laughing and play fighting. A girl about sixteen looking in a uniform walked up behind the counter. “Max, what did the boss say about beating up customers?” She asked. “Oh, hi Slade!!!” she said. “Hi…uh…are you new here?” She asked. “Yes, I am how are you?” I asked trying to be polite. “I’m fine! What’s you’re name?” she asked. “My name’s Chi Riluss, what’s yours” I asked. “I’m Lizzie” she said smiling at me. “I’m LIZZIE!!!!!” mocked Max loudly. Slade and Max laughed really hard. “Well, I’ll see ya later, Chi, I got to get back to work, nice meeting you and have fun in Shady Day!!!” she said walking to the cooking area. “Here you go here’s you’re food” said Max handing Slade a tray. We found a booth towards the back of the restaurant and sat down. Slade handed me my pizza and we started eating. “So, I noticed you’re pretty quiet, why would a loud idiot like Hank and a nice girl like you be hanging out?” he asked. “I actually think Hank’s pretty cool” I said. “That’s a first…” Slade mumbled. “Huh?” I asked. Before Slade could explain Hank walked in the door. When he saw us he came over to us. “Finally, I found you Chi, I didn’t mean to just ditch you like that” said Hank rubbing the back of his head. “Sorry” said Hank. “Um, I was actually wondering if you wanted to come to the party at the skate park tonight…Do you?” asked Hank. “Um sure!!” I said. I keep on forgetting that I’m shy. “Awesome!!!” said Hank. “Slade, Here’s fifty bucks for outfits for Chi…take her to skate for life and get her some kind of skate looking outfit”. “Well, uh… Bye!!!” said Hank as he walked to the doors. “I got to go help set up” said Hank as he walked out . “Ok, well, I guess we should go get your outfit after we get done” said Slade. Soon we were done so we walked to Skate for life and went inside. Slade gave me suggestions and I ended up picking an outfit that had a jean skirt with black leggings coming down to my knees and a purple spaghetti top. Slade paid for it with his own money even know Hank had given him the money and I offered forty million times. We walked out of the store. “Um…so do you mind if we go to my house real fast?” “I need to get something and you can go in my bathroom and change if you want” he said. “Ok” I answered back so we walked to Slade’s house talking here and there. When we got there Slade showed me where the bathroom was so I went in and changed. I walked out of the bathroom when I got done. SLADE WAS LYING ON THE FLOOR!!!!! “SLADE!!!!” I screamed. HE WASN’T BREATHING!!!!!!! I could hardly think of what to do so I ran out the front door screaming for Hank. “HAAAAANK!!! HAAAAANK!!!”. I mean, what could have possibly happened. Could he have had a seizure or a stroke? A heart-attack maybe. HOPEFULLY NOT ANY OF THOES THINGS!!! I remembered Hank was at the party so I used the best of my memory to find the skate park. Out of breath, what seemed like hours later I had arrived. I ran through the gate doors frantically scanning over the people. I saw a blond mop a amongst the crowd and ran after it. “HANK!!!” I said exasperated. He put his hands on my shoulders. “What is it!?! Are you ok?!? Did someone hurt you!?!” he asked seriously. “I’m fine, it’s Slade!” I said starting to tear. “WHAT HAPPENED!?!” he said more worried. “I don’t exactly know but he was just lying on the floor when I came out of the bathroom and all I could think to do was come get you, PLEASE come with me!!!” I said as I turned and ran. He was closely fallowing me and together we were as swift and fast as two foxes on the run. Soon we were back at Slade’s house. I pushed the door open and we hurried in. WHAT!?! Slade was NOT there anymore!! “He was laying right there!!!’ I said as I pointed. Maybe he got up or something. We called his name and raided the whole house. He was nowhere to be found!!! “Listen, I know this sounds stupid but we should check other places he might have gone, he’s a little…” Hank stopped. “… Emotionally challenged” he said. “Sometimes he’s ok but sometimes he looses it and I’m scared that might have happened” he said. “So, where should we look?” I asked seeing a whole new point of view I never saw before about the brothers. “I think we should check around the high school and in the outskirts of the forest maybe even asking around a little, whatever we do, we gotta hurry because I don’t want him getting killed” he said. “Let’s go to the school first, do you have a flashlight?”Hank asked. I relised it had definitely become darker. “Yeah, luckily I brought one in my bring-along bags”. I ran back to my room and quickly unzipped some bags and looked through a few. I found a decent sized flashlight so I gave it to Hank and we started running again. Soon we came to a huge building that had Shady Day High engraved across the stone. “Ok, let’s start looking” said Hank uneasily. We looked in the front, in the bushes, in the buildings big cracks, everywhere that seemed big enough for a sixteen year old boy. After a while of that we stopped. “He’s not here…” said Hank exasperated. “Should we check the forest?” I asked. Hank put his hands above his head and locked them trying to open his lungs to breath. “That would be my best guess” he said. “ok than, let’s go” we turned and ran. I must admit; I was very tired. That didn’t stop me or Hank though. Soon we reached the outskirts of the forest. It was dark, damp looking, and very creepy . The very same forest I saw when I first came, that looked beautiful and charming even know it seemed as if it were hiding something. Well, it most definitely seemed that way now. Hank looked at me. “Ready?” he asked quietly. I nodded and we entered cautiously. It was very… very dark and scary. We were creeping deeper into the forest. It was dead silent except for the frequent howl of some animal I didn’t let enter my mind. I could almost swear I every so often stepped on something alive but my mind tried to convince me otherwise. I looked over at Hank who seemed to have the same uneasiness. All of the sudden there was a scream in the dark. “AAHHHHHH!!!” Someone shrieked. “THAT’S SLADE!!!” yelled Hank. We immediately took off running dodging all the hurtles on the ground. We ran and ran for what seemed endless. We passed so many trees that none of them looked different except for two in particular. They leaned into each other to create a arch. We stopped. “This was where he screamed, I can tell” said Hank. We walked a few steppes under the arch and than something weird happened. There was a huge swirling around us and than a sharp pain. Everything went black. We screamed but our voices faded. We couldn’t be, weren’t in Shady Day anymore. Much less earth…
